There are things we have learned to speak about in whispers. As though, if we do not name them out loud, they might never enter our lives.
War has changed the scale of what demands our attention. Against its enormity, many personal fears, losses, and trials can seem smaller, less urgent, almost inappropriate to speak about. But they have not disappeared. Neither have the people living through them.
Therapies reclaims the right to speak about one such experience — and, in doing so, to loosen fear’s hold over us.
Six women find themselves together at a moment when life is no longer an abstraction. And suddenly it becomes clear that life is made up of far more than what we fear. It is made of stupid jokes, awkward questions, love, anger, other people’s habits, our own bodies, the desire to be liked, arguments, tenderness, and plans for tomorrow. They do not know the right way to go on, but they keep living.
Therapies is a performance about how we are always more than what happens to us.
